Remediation is a big word for remedying the situation – in the case of mold that includes physical removal and or chemical treatment. STOP utilizes a 5-step process for addressing mold within buildings * :

Step 1. HEPA vacuum moldy surfaces and physically remove affected materials (drywall, trim, carpet, unsalvageable personal belongings and furniture)

Step 2. Apply a liquid fungicide to kill the remaining mold

Step 3. Abrade the moldy surfaces to rip the mold and roots from the material (with wire brushes, HEPA equipped sanders, various blasting techniques)

Step 4. HEPA vacuum the entire work area (this is our detail cleaning step)

Step 5. Apply anti-fungal sealer to protect the treated surfaces

* The remediation process is performed under very strict engineering controls. The entire work area is isolated from the rest of the building, utilizing poly sheeting as critical barriers. This is what we call containment. The work area within containment is kept under negative pressure - continually drawing air into the work area. Negative pressure eliminates the migration of dust and spores into uncontained living spaces. In addition, air scrubbers equipped with HEPA filters are operated outside containment to reduce airborne contamination that existed prior to remedial activities.
